Weeks Middle School parents are invited to an informational meeting about the new Standards-Referenced Grading system being implemented this year at our school as well as Brody and McCombs. The meeting will be Tuesday, September 10 at 6:30 PM in the Weeks auditorium (901 SE Park Avenue).

Weeks 8th Grade students have an opportunity to visit our nation’s capital. This Spring Break trip brings together 8th graders across the district to explore and learn about our nation’s history and to see civic action up close.

To start the new school year, Weeks Middle School kicked off a new peer mentoring program. Called WEB – or Where Everybody Belongs – the program teams up 50 specially-trained 8th graders with small groups of new 6th graders to help them through the transition to middle school. Check out the photos of our bountiful school garden. Students and teachers of the Structured Learning Program here at Weeks have designed and cultivated a beautiful outdoor space filled with flowers, vegetables herbs and a peaceful sitting area.

Check out your student’s school supply list under the Parents tab. Right now is the time to stock up on those supplies necessary for your student’s success. Don’t forget to stock up on extra pencils and paper when supplies run low during 2nd semester.

Iowa law now requires that all students entering 7th grade receive a one-time booster of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine. This change is being implemented at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year. For more information about the Tdap booster and how to get it for your child, please click the above headline.

Weeks is hosting an exciting 2-week summer program, “Minorities on the Move: A Look into Social Roles, Interpretations and Expectations.” The goal of this class is to reach out to minority students, opening their eyes to the prison epidemic, taking them on a literal ride through Iowa’s history using the viewpoints of African Americans and Latinos.

The future 8th grade class is training to become next year’s WEB Leaders.  The WEB program assists in the transition of students from elementary to middle school.  WEB Leaders mentor and support the transitioning students throughout the year. …
