Movement 515: MidPoint (Movement 515) is a RunDSM program that provides middle school students the chance to write and create their own Spoken Word Poetry, Songs and Raps. We meet once a week, create together, talk about social justice issues, play games, and build community. Once a year we also get super competitive and faceoff against the other DMPS middle schools to try and earn the coveted golden boombox.

Improvisation Club: Have you always wanted to be funny? Looking for a great way to grow your speaking skills? Want to be goofy with friends? Come join improv! We’ll learn the tricks to be an improv performer through activities that anyone can learn and use!. Now is your opportunity to learn some new skills and grow confidence in yourself. If you can do improv, you can do anything!

Dream 2 Teach: Students! Are you interested in becoming a teacher? Do you want to know more about what it takes to be a teacher? Join Dream 2 Teach! We will discuss current issues and situations teachers are facing, what you will need to do in school to prepare to be a teacher, the scholarship program Des Moines Public Schools offers for Dream 2 Teach students, and work on a social justice project as a group.

Natural Hair Club: First come first serve as space is limited. Natural Hair club is a club that empowers students to embrace the beauty and versatility of Black hair care styling and barbering. The club promotes mentorship leadership and entrepreneurship. Also, creating a welcoming environment specifically for students of color to embrace culturally who they are.

GSA: GSA is the Gender Sexuality Alliance, a club run by students designed to be a safe space for all students to support each other and discuss issues related to gender, sexuality, and the LGBTA+ community. Club members will meet to create the mission and vision of the club, then work together to accomplish their goals as a group. Please see Ms. Krstulic for details.

6th Grade Soccer: We want to offer a soccer program for 6th graders (boys and girls) that can get them involved and give them an opportunity to play other schools. This will happen in the month of September and end October 30th. Practices will be held on Thursdays after school from 3:45-5:45. PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL TO PARTICIPATE!!! Practice begins September 16th.

DJ CLUB: This is for 7th and 8th graders only. This is also a first come first serve as supplies are limited and expensive. If you want to know the fundamentals of being a DJ, then this club is for you. This group will meet every Tuesday unless noted otherwise. If you want details, please see Ms. Beattie.

6th Grade Running Club: 6th graders only!! The East Middle School Cross Country coaches want to offer running club that will begin September 15th and will go every other Wednesday after that. The dates would be September 15th, 29th and October 13th.
